Tesla vehicles will be able to drive themselves this summer.
A software update will be released this summer that allows an “Autopilot mode” for the Tesla model S.
There aren’t too many details about this “Autopilot mode”, however it seems that drivers will be able to ride hands-free on the highway and self park in private lots.
However, as the New York Times reported, it’s still unclear if Tesla drivers will be able to legally use this new autopilot feature on public streets. Tesla, meanwhile, said there is “no conflict with current regulations.”
It’s amazing to see this start to become a reality. Will Tesla beat Google to market with fully self-driving cars? There are speculations that Google’s “self-driving” project won’t hit the market for at least 3-5 more years. Tesla however, a few months from now, should have this self-driving feature ready for drivers as easily as updating the software on your cellphone.
